-Muddy Trails-
Have you seen a sign at the
Quarry that looks like the one below and wondered who put it
there?
ATTENTION: OFF-ROAD TRAIL
USERS
PLEASE KEEP OFF TRAILS
WHEN WET.
|
THE QUARRY TRAILS ARE IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE
AREA. MUDDY TRAILS ARE VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE
FROM ANY
USE. SUCH DAMAGE LEADS TO LONG TERM TREAD DESTRUCTION AND
EROSION. TO PROTECT THIS RESOURCE AND AVOID PERMANENT
TRAIL CLOSURE, PLEASE ALLOW TRAILS TO DRY
BEFORE USE. YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. |
Well, it was us. But we’ve
got a good reason for asking you to keep off of muddy
trails, so don't get mad.
Using the trails when
they’re muddy will work more water into the mud and also
create a depression in the trail surface that holds water.
The trail gets rutted up, the mud stays around longer and
instead of shedding water after each rain event, the ruts
hold the water. With more rain, the mud runs into the
river. Then the trail grows wider as people try to avoid
the mud puddle. And in the meantime, valuable and delicate
vegetation is destroyed as the trail widens.
Destruction resulting from
use of muddy trails is one of the strongest arguments that
people will use to try to close a trail or restrict user
groups. So please, pay attention to the signs and think
about what you're doing.
The
land on the east side
of 95 should not be hunted
at any time by anyone. If you encounter a hunter on the
east side then contact the police immediately.
The
land on the west side
of 95 owned by Silver Company is hunted
by the owners and/or designees during any of the below
listed game seasons. Please avoid using the trails on this
land whenever hunting may be occurring.
The
land west and south
of the Owl Loop trail (far south western end of the trails)
is hunted
by the owners and/or designees during any of the below
listed game seasons. Please avoid using the trails near
this land whenever hunting may be active. In other words,
please avoid Owl Loop from sunup to sundown during hunting
season, except for Sundays when hunting is forbidden.
Regardless of what section of the trails you are on during
hunting season, it is a good idea to
wear bright colors,
especially blaze orange, whenever on the trails. Hunters
can get confused about property lines and end up where you
wouldn’t expect them. Bullets have no idea when they are
supposed to stop flying.

-Jenny Guth’s Private
Property-
At the request of the City of
Fredericksburg and the private property owner Jenny Guth,
please stay on the trail where it is marked as her private
property. Traveling only on the existing trails is
important on all of the Quarry trails but is CRITICAL on the
property marked as belonging the Jenny Guth. Ms. Guth’s
willingness to allow us on HER PROPERTY requires that
everyone travel ONLY ON THE TRAIL.
DO NOT CLIMB THE BLUFFS ON
HER LAND.
DO NOT WIDEN THE TRAIL OR
BLAZE NEW TRAILS ON HER LAND.
Failure to cooperate may
result in loss of access on this land!
-Scoundrels, Scallywags &
Misanthropes-
If you spot any illegal activity while on the trail then
please notify the police immediately and let us know about
it too. We want to make sure that other trail users are
aware of any potentially dangerous activity so that the
trails are safe for all users at all times.
This is not just a request from FATMUG but from the
landowners as well. Respect and defend this land as if it
were a park or your own back yard!
